Occasionally we will have point of lay (POL), or adult hens and roosters, but usually not until late summer or early fall. When available, they will be available through our Order Request page on a first come, first serve basis. We do not have any other waitlist or way to order them other than through our Order Request page.
No - all breeds we offer at Cedar View Acres are not able to be sexed at hatch, and therefore are sold as straight run only. There is a 50/50 chance that a chick will be male or female.
We do not practice vent sexing.
Your chicks will be between 3 and 10 days old.
Once the chicks hatch and are in the brooder, we keep them for a minimum of 3 days to ensure they have a strong start. Some chicks may be up to 10 days old as we may occasionally combine chicks from different hatch dates to fulfill your order. They can still all be brooded and raised together with no issues.
Due to the micro-hatchery volume our farm offers, at this time we do not offer shipped eggs and chicks. They are available for local pick-up only.

We only release limited quantity of each breed to ensure we are managing supply to the best of our ability. If there is a breed sold out, sign up to receive back in stock notifications for your preferred breed and date, or check back regularly as we will be updating stock when we are close to setting eggs or hatching out.
Note: If there is more than 1 date that works for your schedule for chick pick up/hatch dates, you will have to sign up for back in stock notifications for each date. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are working on finding a more streamlined solution.
Due our micro-hatchery size, we try to consolidate orders each week for customer pick ups. We set eggs on Tuesdays to ensure that chicks have proper time to hatch and get the best start possible before they go off to their new homes.
Pick up dates are outlined when requesting your order (Fridays), but we do offer a 3-day pick up window between Friday and Sunday for better flexibility. We will work with you on a date and time within these 3 days that works for you.
Hatching is always a gamble.
Hatching eggs are available when fertility rates are over 85% on our farm. However, due to circumstances that are out of our control, we do not guarantee fertility or hatch rates once eggs leave our farm.
Experience, transportation, storage, handling, incubation environment, temperature and humidity are just a few things that can affect the chances of eggs developing and ultimately hatching.
Payment can be made by cash or e-transfer to cedarviewacres23@gmail.com. When you place an order request on our website, no payment is taken through our site. We will reach out when we confirm your order. See below for additional details.
Chick and egg orders, January to May: You will not have to pay for your order until pick up.
We hope that customers can follow through with committing to their order once placed so that we can maintain not having to take deposits. We understand that things can happen; if you need to change or cancel your order, please let us know as soon as possible.
Chick and egg orders, June to July: To confirm your order during these months, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. Deposits are mandatory for this time of year as we are no longer hatching for ourselves, and is our "slow" season of the year. Orders placed during this time of year are the only ones being set for.
If you are not comfortable committing to a date for your order, we likely will have surplus (over hatch) on batches that we are hatching for ourselves and for other orders during our busy season between February and May. These will be posted on our website as available stock, and we occasionally will add them to our Facebook page. These are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Homegrown Hatching Incubator Rental: Due to the limited space in this program, the full $150 payment is due once we confirm your order, which includes a $100 deposit*. See Incubator Rental FAQ section for more details.
We understand that things can happen. Please contact us as soon as possible at cedarviewacres23@gmail.com and we're happy to do our best to accommodate; please reference your order number in your email. There may be some instances where we cannot accommodate the change due circumstances that are out of our control, but this will be discussed at the time of the order change.
January to May:
Chicks: We are unable able to make changes to your order within 22 days of the confirmed pick up date. At that time, this will be marked as a cancelled order and you will have to place a new order request. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Eggs: We are unable to make changes to your order within 15 days of the confirmed pick up date. At that time, this will be marked as a cancelled order and you will have to place a new order request. We apologize for any inconvenience.
June to July:
Chicks and Eggs: Unfortunately, we are unable able to make changes to your order once it has been confirmed. At that time, this will be marked as a cancelled order and and the 50% non-refundable deposit will be forefitted. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Homegrown Hatching Incubator Rental: If you need to cancel your order before pick up, your $100 deposit is forefitted, but you will receive the remaining $50 back. If you need to change your date, we will try to accomodate but due to the limited spaces in this program, we cannot guarantee that we can move your date to another one. Orders cannot carry forward into a new calendar year and are considered a cancelation.
Out of stock: If you are looking for a particular breed and we are out of stock online, be sure to sign up for the "notify when available" notification on that breed for your preferred date. We will be constantly updating availability throughout the season. You will have to sign up for notifications for each date that you would like a notification for; we apologize for the inconvience and are working on a more streamlined way to do this.
Not enough stock: If there is a breed that doesn't have as much stock as you were hoping, be sure to complete your order request with the maximum amount available, and put a note in your basket at check out with the total number that you're looking for. Occasionally we will have a surplus that are not accounted for in which we can give you first priority, however this is not guaranteed.
